About Fresh Roast SR540/SR800 Extension Tube

Optional extension tube for Fresh Roast models SR540 and SR800.  This will fit either roaster. It was developed by the Fresh Roast manufacturer to place inside of, and to increase the height of the original roast chamber.  It is not a replacement for the roast chamber furnished with either roaster.  According to the manufacturer "This SR800 Extension tube will allow the machine to run on lower fan and heat settings once the beans get lighter in weight".  

The extension tube is tall, 10.25 inches and attaches to the original chamber using two high temperature silicon bands, one for the bottom and a double lip seal for the mid-section. The extension tube fits inside the existing roast chamber and its upper section rises above the chamber so only about half of that length is actually added to overall height.  What you wind up with is a taller roaster and extra care should be taken. The extension does help with bean movement as well as heat output, especially for users who have somewhat inadequate voltage.  Used properly it can help extend deveopment time, the space between 1st and 2nd crack.  Extending that time a bit can improve the flavor of lighter roasts, namely those that will end before the onset of 2nd crack.

Although the roast chamber is effectively larger by using the extension tube, you should not increase green coffee volume.  The roaster itself is designed to use 4 ounces of unroasted washed coffee (a little less if natural).  Roasting more than that increases risk.

Do you need it?  Certainly not at the outset if you are new to roasting on a Fresh Roast.  But if you have experience with these roasters and want to add another dimension to what it can do, this might be for you.   That said, use caution when using the extension tube as noted above.

This will not fit older or other Fresh Roast models.
